"Good
at making a cup of tea, bad at sitting still." Born in South East London,
August 1982, Natalie claims to make her best work when on the bus and whilst
talking to those great busybodies in the street. Following the philosophy of
her hero, "Run with what you’ve got and fix it as you go," Natalie
has no time to sit, over-thinking an idea. It's time well wasted.
Deriving from a Fine Art background she was sent to art college at 17, her mum
could no longer stand the mess of the studio, which was once known as the kitchen.
After 3 years of studying Illustration, Natalie graduated from Brighton University
and traveled throughout Asia, from India to Japan. Drawing and doodling did
not pay the way, but it did send her in the right direction.
Hating school but loving education, she studied a postgraduate in teaching art
and design. And while teaching kept her constantly stimulated and enthused,
watching others create art did not and thus another escape, this time to Italy
to create her own works.
After a year and a bit at
Fabrica,
Benetton’s Creative Research centre in Italy, she is still trying to understand
the world and do something important with it.
Currently Natalie lives and works in London, with a continued and deep appreciation
for Polaroid photos, overheard conversations, disregarded objects, charity shops,
mistakes and her friends.
